London Open 2016

Many thanks to Simone Callander for the report

The London Area’s premier event took place on 21st and 22nd May at the UEL SportsDock.

The first day saw the minors, pre cadets and cadets take to the stage and the second day saw the juniors, seniors and masters in action.

The competition was well attended with entries from over 480 players from more than 70 different clubs. There was even an entry from as far as South Africa! It was also nice to see representatives from the armed services competing.

There were many comments over the weekend about the high standard of judo in particular in the cadets. There were fantastic contests over the two days, some ending in amazing ippons and some won more tactically in golden score.

The spectators as always were very vocal and provided a good atmosphere. The London Area would like to thank everyone at the London open for their generosity in raising £228 for the Stephanie Inglis Fund. This kind donation will go some way towards providing vital medical care for her.

The officials and referees worked tirelessly on one of the hottest weekends so far to ensure the day ran without many hitches.

Thank you to all the players, coaches, officials, referees and volunteers for your continued support of our top event. We are already looking forward to next year’s extravaganza.
