Horncastle Judo Club flying high

Lincolnshire’s Horncastle Judo Club flew the flag for judo at the RAF’s Waddington International Air Show.

The Royal Air Force aviation spectacular attracted over 120,000 visitors in an unforgettable family day out.

Clubmark outfit Horncastle were invited to demonstrate the flourishing Olympic and Paralympic sport of judo.

The club turned out in force with senior judoka of every colour belt on hand to showcase the sport to a receptive audience who were inspired to don the famous white suit and step onto the tatami for the first time.

The enthusiastic beginners practiced breakfalls, gripping and holddowns and several participants have moved on to practice the sport at Horncastle’s dojo.

Horncastle head coach Trevor Jacklin said: “It was a fantastic honour to be invited at one of the biggest shows in the country we couldn’t turn it down as part of our Olympic celebrations.

“What a fantastic two days with many people having a go for the first time young and old and thousands of on lookers and of course our own players, we did such a great job that where invited back for next year’s event which is a credit to our club and judo.”

“I would like to thank all those that were involved especially John Sinclair HJC Instructor and RAF staff sergeant for  his great efforts in bringing it all together.”
