Pull Uke towards you, with your forearm against Uke’s throat. Push your chest towards Uke’s back.

Feed your right arm under Uke’s neck.

Step 2

Clasp your hands together.

Step 3

Apply the strangle, tucking your feet below Uke’s legs.

Sumi-Gaeshi

Step 1

As Uke moves forward, place your foot against Uke’s inner thigh.

Step 2

Rolling backwards throw Uke over your shoulder using your foot to control them.

Step 3

Complete the throw by pushing with the sole of your left foot to create more force.

Ushiro-Goshi

Step 1

As Uke attacks, bend your knees and clamp onto Uke.

Step 2

Lift Uke using your legs and thrusting your hips forwards.

Step 3

Step back controlling your partners decent.

Step 4

Complete the technique, supporting your partner as they land on the mat.

Yoko-Gake

Step 1

Step to the side using a Tsugi-Ashi movement.

Step 2

Block Uke’s foot with the sole of your foot.

Step 3

Fall to the side, lifting Uke’s blocked leg.

Step 4

As Uke falls onto their back, turn to the side.
