Five Clubs Awarded Club Recognition Scheme Silver Award

At the close of a successful year AYAC Liverpool, Chichester Ronin, Dartford, Kin Ryu Crawley and Ipswich Judo Clubs have all been awarded the British Judo Association’s Club Recognition Scheme Silver award.

Since gaining the Club Recognition Scheme Bronze award incorporating the prestigious Sport England Clubmark award all five clubs have used this important developmental tool to their advantage and to improve their clubs not only for their own benefit, but for the benefit of the community and the BJA.

Christine Anderson of A.Y.A.C. Liverpool commented : “Since gaining our Clubmark Bronze award we have enjoyed reduced rates for coach education courses which in turn has led to an increase in our membership of 30%. In addition to this we will have an option to apply for a grant in the New Year from local funding, and being an accredited club will go in our favour”

Alan Roberts from Dartford said of the scheme : “ Since our successful Award, we have come to realise how important the Clubmark  is to Local Authorities, and Sports Centres and as it grows in the general public's awareness, how important it will be to promote your Club as one that holds this Award, setting it above the many other Clubs still to gain the recognition.

Like any 'Kite Mark', it is seen as an acceptable standard, and I can assure any Clubs still not working towards it, that the work involved in achieving the Award is well worth while, in the extra respect and credibility that is gained on being a 'Club Mark Club'

Martin Rivers from Kin Ryu club commented on the scheme as a development tool: “ All in all the Clubmark has been a great experience for the club, and we are certainly reaping the rewards of a more organised, focused and determined membership.”

And Chichester Ronin , as a result of the strides they have made in the development of their club under the scheme it has been awarded the City crest (only the second voluntary organisation ever to do so).  This has given them a creditable standing in the city and the Local Authority wholeheartedly support them with reinforcing school links and their involvement with Inclusive judo sessions

In general all the clubs agree that the Club Recognition Scheme is an invaluable tool in the development of their clubs.

The Club Recognition Scheme is open to all member clubs of the British Judo Association and, once the Sport England Clubmark level has been achieved, it can be used as a very important developmental tool to improve the quality of judo at club level, with increased numbers giving greater variety of players to train with, and improved coaching skills to give better quality coaching, and by natural progression to area and national levels.
