Judo's Shinkin carries Olympic flame through London

Lee Shinkin was one of the 80 torchbearers who carried the Olympic flame through London on Sunday 6th April.

London welcomed the Olympic Flame as part of the global Olympic Torch Relay in the run up to the Beijing Olympic Games.

Lee is one of a handful of young British athletes who took part in the relay who are aspiring to London's Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012. The 22-year-old, who is a Youth Olympic silver medallist, throughly enjoyed taking part, saying afterwards, "It was an honour to hold the torch and represent my country as well as my sport, home town and club".

"It was also inspirational to be doing it with other Olympians and athletes such as Tim Henman, Steve Redgrave and Kelly Holmes"

"I look forward to London 2012"

Other torchbearers included double Olympic gold medal winner Dame Kelly Holmes, broadcaster Sir Trevor McDonald , classical violinist Vanessa Mae , England cricketer Kevin Pieterson , actress Amara Karan, Tessa Sanderson CBE: 6 time Olympian and Olympic Gold medallist in the Javelin, Duncan Goodhew MBE: Olympic Gold and Bronze medallist in swimming, and Gail Emms: Olympic Silver medallist and former World Number 1 in badminton mixed doubles.

The Olympic Torch will travel to 22 cities on five continents, and every province in China, before arriving back in Beijing for the start of the 2008 Olympic Games on 8 August.
