May Madness

May Madness, the fundraising event for the British Judo Trust, is nearly here.   Like last year (when Judo in July ran), your club will keep 50% of the amount raised and the remaining figure will go to the British Judo Trust.

The Trust is a limited company with charitable status, and is a separate entity to the British Judo Association.  In accordance with the charitable objectives set out in the Trust's governing document, the Trust supports activity within three key programmes; Widening Participation, Developing People and Facility Development, and will shortly be open for applications.

There are many incentives for your club get involved in May Madness:

  • The Club that raises the highest amount of money throughout the month with win £100 worth of BJA merchandise vouchers; to be spent as they wish.

  • The five Clubs that raise the highest amounts of money will be given the opportunity to perform a judo demonstration on the main mat, before the start of the 2008 GB World Cup (and up to 10 free tickets).

  • The club who submits the best idea before the start of May will have their event covered by a special double page spread in the July edition Matside including photographs by a BJA photographer. This edition will be particularly prestigious as it will be a Beijing Olympic special, with an extended print run.

  • A Contribution to the Trust award will be presented at the BJA’s Annual Awards Dinner to formally recognise the person or club that makes the most significant overall contribution to the work of the Trust.

  • Every club that takes part will get a certificate of achievement and demonstrate their support of the British Judo Trust.

They will arrange for you to receive fundraising pack, which includes everything you need including posters, leaflets, and templates to promote the event in your local area and within your club. They will also assist you where they can.

If you confirm what you are doing before the first week in March, your Club will also be included in a “May Madness” feature in the April edition of Matside, which will list all the activity happening throughout the country.
