was announced that British Judo had filled five of the six Regional
Technical Officer positions, Dave Southby (Eastern), Kerry Manfredi
(North West), Chloe O’Gorman (North East), Chris Doherty (South
East) and Steve Fraser (London).
At the time of print the
West Midlands position was still to be decided, however, the British
Judo Association can confirm that Joyce Heron has now be employed
in this role.
Joyce, who is a 6 th Dan,
joins with a great deal of experience. Joyce, who is an assistant

(Cadet, Junior & Senior) since 1996. She has also produced
materials for the sports science area of the BJA UKCC level 3
awards scheme, and is a member of the UKCC Planning Group responsible
for developing the Level 3 Learning Programme.
Whilst working with JudoScotland
as National Development Officer she was involved in the planning
and organising of gradings, competition and coaching events on
a regular base.
Joyce competed for Britain
in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games, participated in three Senior
Judo World Championships (one bronze and a 7 th place), three
Senior Judo European Championships (one bronze & a 5 th place).
She was also four times Commonwealth Judo Tournament Gold medallist.

Correction: In the January
edition of Matside it was incorrectly printed that Chris Doherty
was the North East Regional Technical Officer. This is incorrect.
Please note that Chris Doherty is the South East Regional Technical
Officer. Chloe O’Gorman covers the North East as correctly printed.
