Five British medals at Moscow Super World Cup

Britain have won five medals, including a gold from Euan Burton, at the Moscow Super World Cup, which took place on the 5th-6th May.

Burton, who beat Germany’s Ole Bishchof in the final, demonstrated both tactical awareness and mental strength throughout the competition, constantly adapting his style to win the well deserved gold.

Peter Cousin’s won silver in the –100kg weight category, losing on a penalty score to Levan Razmadze of Georgia in a closely fought final, which could have gone to either fighter.

There were three British bronzes from Faith Pitman in the –57kg weight category, Michelle Rogers in the –78kg weight category, and Winston Gordon in the –90kg weight category.

Pitman’s bronze was a personal best, beating some tough competition, including Germany’s Marien Hein and three Russian’s on home soil Olga Sonina, Tatiana Shushakova, and Nana Yukhareva.

Sarah Clark finished just outside the medals in the –63kg weight category, in 5th place. James Millar finished 7th in the -60kg weight category.

As an Olympic qualification event the results will be a welcome boost to the points in the Olympic qualifying ranking lists.
