ASSOCIATION - BOARD OF DIRECTORS – TERMS OF REFERENCE
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Chairman is responsible for leading the Board and for ensuring
that it successfully discharges its overall responsibility for
the organisation as a whole. The Board is accountable to the Membership
of the Association.
DUTIES
· To set the strategic direction of the Association, approve the
annual and longer-term objectives and agree plans to achieve them.
· To oversee the delivery of planned results by monitoring performance
against the strategic objectives and ensuring corrective action
is taken when necessary.
· To ensure effective financial stewardship through value for
money, financial control and financial planning and strategy.
· To receive reports and recommendations from the Financial Director
that provides the independent assurance that there are appropriate
internal controls to identify and manage the Association’s strategic
risks.
· To ensure high standards of corporate governance and personal
behavior are maintained in conduct of the business of the whole
Association.
· To ensure that there is effective communications and working
between the Association and partnership organisations.
Many of the above tasks the Board achieve via the line management
of the Chief Executive Officer who is charged with acting on the
Boards instructions.
CORE SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE OF BOARD MEMBERS
ESSENTIAL
· Commitment to the British Judo Association
· Understanding & knowledge of the world of Judo
· Experience & skills in corporate governance
· The skill to represent and promote the Association externally
· Commitment to the Association’s Equality and Safeguarding Polices
& Procedures
DESIRABLE
· Management & leadership skills
· Legal and/or financial skills
· Human resources skills
· Experience of organisational development
The Board of Directors meets approximately 8 times per year in
Loughborough. Full expenses are paid.
Meetings schedules will
be as fexible as possible to encourage a wide range of people
with different work and other commitments to stand.
Please note: The British Judo Association is
an organisation comprising of over 80% U18yrs members. The Directors
lead the organisations strategic approach to Safeguarding and
therefore successful candidates (via ballot of member clubs) will
be required to undertake an Enhanced CRB Disclosure with the Association.
All nominations for the Board of Directors need to be made via
BJA Area Committees.
