British Judo has named the final two
players in its team for the 2007 World Judo Championships, which
will take place in Rio de Janeiro from 13th –16th September.
Pinewood’s Georgina Singleton,
who clinched gold last weekend at the 2007 Turkish B Tournament,
will compete in the –52kg weight category. The former European
Champion last competed in a World Championships in 2003, when
she finished in 5 th place. Although outside the medals it was
enough to guarantee a place for the 2004 Athens Olympics where
she finished 7th.
Edinburgh’s Sally Conway
will make her senior World Championship debut in the –70kg weight
category. The 20-year-old, a silver medallist at last year’s Junior
World Championships, won bronze at the Turkish B Tournament.
The entire team will attend
a training camp in Japan from the 13th -30th July as part of their
preparations for the Championships. The team will depart for Rio
on Friday 7th September.
