BUILDING THE SYSTEM FOR LONDON 2012 AND BEYOND

JUDO CONDITIONING SPECIALIST 30k circa

British Judo is currently seeking to employ a Judo Conditioning Specialist to work with elite judo players under the leadership and management of the GB Head Coach, Patrick Roux. The Judo Conditioning Specialist will need to be able to develop and implement judo specific programmes for elite players in preparation for London 2012 Olympic Games and beyond.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years experience of coaching and delivery of physical preparation in the performance arena and be capable of profiling and evaluating player’s strengths and development needs, in order to enhance training and performance. The Judo Conditioning Specialist will be required to work with individuals and groups of players on a daily basis on the mat, integrating judo technical skills and conditioning work, as well as delivering some gym based work.

The Judo Conditioning Specialist will need to have an understanding and knowledge of modern judo training methods and will work with the GB Head Coach, coaching and support team to develop specialist strength and conditioning programmes; which reflect scientific principles as they relate to adaption, periodisation, tapering and peaking for judo and also ensure rehab programmes are aligned with any conditioning work. Effective testing, evaluation and ongoing performance monitoring of players will be required and regular information and data will need to be provided to the rest of the coaching, support and management team.

The specialist will need to have the ability to create performance focused environments. Sound coaching, planning and management skills will be essential. The Judo Conditioning Specialist will be part of an interdisciplinary team whose priority is to win medals in London 2012. Ongoing professional development will be supported.

A degree or professional qualification in coaching and physical preparation will required. Communication skills, including the ability to deliver technical workshops and presentations are required. Computer literacy, a driving license and full passport are essential and a CRB check will be a condition of employment. This post will be full time from May/June 2009 onwards and is aligned to the UK Sport funding cycle 2009-2013. The post will be based at the British Judo Performance Institute at Dartford Judo Club.
