BOA Class of 2012

The BOA will run the ‘CLASS of 2012’ scheme to offer athletes with the potential for 2012 the opportunity to experience the Beijing Games. It is statistically proven that the majority of athletes who win an Olympic Gold medal, do so at their 2 nd Games, and attribute this to the experience they gain from attending a previous Olympic Games.

Judo has been allocated 4 positions on the scheme for 3 athletes and 1 coach, with the following itinerary:

8th Aug Flight to Hong Kong Heathrow

9th Aug Arrive Hong Kong and transfer to Team GB holding camp, Macau

10th Aug Macau

11th Aug Transfer to Beijing

12th Aug Beijing

13th Aug Beijing

14th Aug Return to London Heathrow

The criteria by which the allocation will be filled are as followed:

Criteria: Potential to be at London 2012

•  Already identified as a ‘Development’ athlete

•  Age Range - The 7 players currently in the qualification zone for Beijing Games have an age range of 25-31, therefore potentially for the 2012 London Olympic Games; the players must be currently 21-27 years old. The criteria for this age range is reinforced by the performance conflict of the U20 players preparing for this year’s European Junior Championships (September) and World Junior Championships in (October).

•  Consistent performance record at U20/U23 Worlds and Europeans

•  Coaches working with current development players and GB programme
