Golds for Fallon and Clark at weekend World Cups

Britain won three medals at the weekend’s World Cups. At the Baku World Cup for men in Azerbaijan, Craig Fallon continued his gold rush in the –60kg weight category defeating Lavrentis Alexanidis of Greece in the final. Fallon’s second gold in as many months leaves him ranked third in the EJU Olympic Classifications (discounting those who have already qualified).

Also in Azerbaijan, James Millar finished 5 th in the –60kg weight category. He is also sitting in an encouraging 6th place in the Olympic Classifications (discounting those who have already qualified) following his silver medal win at the Rotterdam Super World Cup earlier this month.

In Belarus, Sarah Clark won gold at the Minsk World Cup for women, with a second medal being clinched Georgina Singleton who finished bronze. Clark beat Kalzhan Taizhanova of Kazakhstan to take the gold, while Singleton fought through the repechage and defeated Ekaterina Bouravtseva of Russia in the fight for the bronze medal. The gold raised Clark to second place in the EJU Olympic Classifications while Singleton now sits in 12th place.   Faith Pitman, who placed 7th in Minsk, is also looking strong in the Olympic rankings sitting in 5th place, after putting in consistantly good perforfmances during the 2007 World Cup season.

The two tournaments were the last World Cups of 2007.
