Tom Reed has won bronze
at the European under 23 Championships, which took place in Moscow
from the 25th-26th November.
The 20-year-old who
trains at the University of Bath beat Eldin Lukac of Bosnia &
Herzegovina, Milos Koman of Slovakia and Damien Halidi of Switzerland
in the early rounds, before losing to Dirk Van Tichelt of Belgium
in the semi-final. In the bronze medal fight he defeated Pavel
Ntanko of Greece by ippon.
Faith Pitman finished
5th in the –57kg weight category, as did Sarah Adlington in the
+78kg weight category. Adlington missed out on bronze after
the match went to a hand tie. While the referee gave the match
the Brit the two corner judges gave it to Poland’s Marzena Makula.
Sophie Johnstone and
Gemma Gibbons finished in 7 th place in the –52kg weight category
and the –78kg weight categories respectively. Adam Bick
also finished 7th in the -81kg weight category.
Commenting on his medal
win Tom said “I’m really happy. This is my best medals so far
and my first European medal,” he said.
“I’ve never had a major international medal since I was a cadet.
I’m notorious for coming fifth, but the difference between coming
fifth and getting a bronze is amazing”, he added
