The University of Bath’s
judo club won a top team award at the University’s annual Blues
Awards ceremony.
The club was awarded the BUSA Team of the Year Award for its outstanding
performances in 2006/7, culminating in success at the British
Universities (BUSA) Judo Championships.
The University of Bath team produced outstanding performances
at the annual BUSA Championships in March, winning 35 medals,
21 of them gold.
The women won their fifth successive BUSA Team title, with the
men winning their third in a row.
Danny Murphy, a member of men’s team at the event, received the
award on behalf of his all of the team, from Professor Glynis
Breakwell, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bath.
The judo team shared the award with the University’s badminton
team, who also had an outstanding year.
The successes achieved by University of Bath judo players was
further recognised with the award of Full Blues to five TeamBath
judo players at the Blues Awards ceremony, which was held in Bath’s
historic Assembly Rooms.
Tom Reed, a Business Administration student at the University
of Bath who won a bronze medal at the European Under-23 Championships
in Moscow in November, was presented a Full Blues.
Full Blues also went to Gemma Gibbons, Janine Johnson and Katrina
McDonald, as well as to Maltese judo player Marcon Bezzina, who
represented her country at the Athens 2004 Olympics.
Full Blues are awarded to students who achieve outstanding success
on the international stage.
Half Blues were awarded to Jonny Herron, Danny Murphy and Daniel
Stanley, with Colours going to Katy Sumner.
