Following on from the success
of its Athens Olympic mini-site, the British Judo Association
has officially launched a dedicated Beijing Olympic site at www.britishjudo.org.uk/beijing.
The Beijing Olympics are
fast approaching with the opening ceremony taking place on the
8 th August 2008 in Beijing, followed by 16 days of sporting competition.
This will be the first time the Olympic Games have taken place
in the Peoples Republic of China. The Paralympics Games begin
shortly after with the opening ceremony taking place on the 6
th September and closing on the 17 th September 2008.
The Games will see 10,500
athletes from around the globe competing in 302 events, in 28
different sports. Team GB have a seven strong judo squad; Craig
Fallon, Euan Burton, Winston Gordon, Peter Cousins, Sarah Clark,
Michelle Rogers and Karina Bryant. While four players; Darren
Harris, Sam Ingram, Ben Quilter and Ian Rose will compete in the
Paralympics.
The new Beijing mini-site
contains a ‘meet the team’ section, which includes biogs for both
Olympic and Paralympics players, a guide to judo, a latest news
feed, a chance for supporters to send messages of support, and
a ‘reports from Beijing’ page, which will be updated when the
Games begin.
All messages of support
will be passed on to the players before they travel to Beijing.
