Four-strong British women’s team head to IJF Miami World Cup

A four-strong British women’s team has been selected to compete at the IJF Miami World Cup in Florida on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 July at Doral Country Club and Spa in Miami, Florida.

2010 European u23 Championships bronze medallist Gemma Howell will be in action in the -57kg category.

2011 Sarajevo European Cup winner Sarah Clark, who has been pre-selected for the World Championships in August, will take to the -63kg field.

2010 European Championship bronze medallist Karina Bryant, who makes her anticipated return from injury, and 2011 British Open bronze medallist Sarah Adlington will both compete in the +78kg category at the two-day event.

British Judo Head Coach Patrick Roux said: “The Miami World Cup is an important event in terms of build up towards the World Championships in Paris.

“This is also an opportunity for the selected GB players to win some additional points for the ranking list.

“Karina Bryant will compete at her first international event since November after a period of injury. It’s great to get her back in the team and fit to compete again.”

Meanwhile a British Visually Impaired team will compete in the sighted seniors and VI categories of the US Open in Miami at the same venue on Sunday 3 July.
