The final day of the 2011 IBSA VI European Championships saw the +78kg women’s category and the men’s team prize at stake.

The +78kg category was dominated by Bulgaria’s Ivomira Mihaylova reeled off four consecutive victories by ippon to claim the coveted European crown.

Silver went to Svetlana Ganieva of Russia while bronze was won by France’s Celine Manzuoli.

Seven teams entered the men’s event with Russia, who travelled to Crawley with a 30-strong squad, entering two teams.

The highly-regarded Russian team’s first side won gold after commanding a very entertaining final against Turkey as they ran out 4-1 winners.

Bronze medals went to France and Ukraine.

Elsewhere a female Russian team battled against a scratch team consisting of Swedish and French judoka. In an absorbing upset the non-medal match was claimed by combined team.
