The UKCC for
Judo having now been endorsed at Levels 1 and 2 is now live and
courses have been planned for the remainder of 2008 and into 2009.
The submission of Level 3 for Endorsement is imminent and a pilot
course is planned later in the year.
The first
courses were held in Essex in March 2008 and the draft programme
below gives an indication of the intended roll out for this financial
year. Courses are no longer organised on an Area or County basis
and all courses are to be regarded as National courses since the
BJA is the approved centre for the qualification. Courses will
be organised North; Midland; South as defined by the Regional
remits of the BJA Regional Development Officers with courses also
being run in each of the Home Countries.

Suitable venues
are currently being sought in each of the cases where no venue
has yet been assigned and although several venues have put themselves
forward to host a course we are actively seeking additional venues
of a suitable standard. Training and/or assessment sites must
provide, or have access to: A minimum 12m x 12m mat area, appropriate
changing and toilet facilities (including disabled provision),
on-site first aid equipment, an area adjacent to the mat or a
nearby lecture/coaching room for up to 20 delegates, (c/w tables,
chairs etc), refreshment making/vending area/facilities, suitable
electrical supplies and adequate car parking facilities.
If your club
meet the criteria and would like to host a course please contact
the BJA National Coaching Officer Dave Duffy on daveduffy@britishjudo.org.uk
or 0777 902 6344. Once the venues have been confirmed, they
will be published on the BJA website.
Are
you interested in taking a UKCC Course in Judo?
An expression
of interest register is held at BJA Head Office and potential
candidates should enter their details using the on-line registration
form as shown overleaf. This process will help BJA Regional Development
Officers to manage UKCC related requests and their local knowledge
and networks will allow them to identify any appropriate support
funding opportunities.
Candidates
on the expression of interest register will be kept updated of
forthcoming courses and from there on in places will be allocated
on a first come first served basis.http://www.britishjudo.org.uk/technical/coaching_ukcc_reg.php
Applicants may also apply
in writing via BJA Head Office – please write to or email Nicola
Burlingham-Hall nicolabh@britishjudo.org.uk
UKCC - Where can
I get funding to help with the cost?
Part of the reason we needed
to strive so hard to get the UKCC Learning and Assessment Programmes
accredited to the National Qualification Framework (NQF) was to
ensure that candidates would be able to tap into sustainable funding
streams in order to obtain subsidies towards the cost of undertaking
the UKCC for Judo.
The UKCC for Judo itself
is an Endorsement of the ‘Judo Specific’ Coach Education Programme’
and the underpinning qualifications (which includes both the assessment
and learning programme), are known as the Level 1 and Level 2
Certificates in Coaching Judo - these are now accredited to the
National Qualification Framework (NQF)making the award eligible
for support funding.
There are a number of avenues
that individuals can explore, you can:
· Contact your Local
Authority Sports Development Unit
· Contact your local
County Sports Partnership representative
· Contact your local
Skills Active Regional manager
· Contact Awards for
All (Club applications)
· Contact your BJA Regional
Development Officer
NB: Funding needs to
be secured prior to attending the course
The Learning and Skills
Council (LSC) and Sport England have committed to funding sports
coaching qualifications around the country with projects being
managed by SkillsActive. Aimed at both aspiring and existing
coaches, this funding will help individuals to gain qualifications
at level 1, 2 and 3 by subsidising courses which are UK Coaching
Certificate (UKCC) endorsed.
