Long Eaton’s Daren Trueman named Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service Community Coach of the Year

Daren Trueman, from Long Eaton Judo Club, has been named the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service Community Coach of the Year at the Derbyshire Sports Awards.

Daren, who received 13 nominations for the Sports Awards from students, parents of students and fellow coaches, won the prestigious title in recognition of his ability to makes judo sessions fun and his “endless patience”.

He was announced as the judges’ choice for the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service Community Coach of the Year title during a ceremony at Derby’s Pride Park Stadium, attended by more than 250 people.

He was presented with his trophy by Sean Frayne, Deputy Chief Fire Officer at Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Daren gives up his time to go to competitions with judo players at weekends, does judo displays to promote the club and coaches two or three classes a night. This year he won the Development Coach of the Year award from the British Judo Association, a first for the club.

The county’s brightest sporting stars, coaches and volunteers gathered with other invited guests at the Derbyshire Sports Awards to celebrate the successes of the past year and recognise community heroes and coaches who have contributed to sport at grassroots level.

The awards are organised by Derbyshire Sport, a county sports partnership which provides the strategic lead for sport in Derbyshire.

Clive Moesby, Chair of Derbyshire Sport, said: “We have a wealth of talented sports performers and dedicated coaches and volunteers in the county, and it is great to be able to recognise the dedication these people show.

“My congratulations go to each of the winners and all the finalists and I wish them many more years of sporting success.

“It was great to see so many people join us at Pride Park for a fantastic evening looking back at some of the sporting highlights of the past year.”
