British Judo has signed
a landmark agreement for Sky to air 10 of the sport’s premier
tournaments from the IJF World Judo Circuit.
The world’s top judokas
will feature in the block of 10 programmes, called the International
Judo Federation World Circuit, which will air as half-hour highlight
shows of each event.
The series, which is
being produced by Fighting Films, who also produce the GB World
Cup for Sky on behalf of the British Judo Association, has been
commissioned by the IJF.
Each programme will
feature the best of the action from all 14 weight categories and
interviews with the standout fighters. The series, which will
air around the world, will predominantly focus on the finals and
the medallists from each event.
The events featured
will be four Grand Slams, five Grand Prix events, the World Championships,
the Masters and the World Team Championships.
British medallists will
feature in the series as they send teams to several events including
the Russian Grand Slam and the World Championships.
Emma Griffin, British
Judo Communications Director, said: “This is the first time that
a series such as this has been produced and we are delighted to
have secured the agreement with Sky which will see the sport gain
