Four referees have been
selected for British Judo’s annual showpiece, the GB World Cup,
at the NIA Arena in Birmingham on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October.
Elaine Down, Keith Merrick,
Dave Stanley and Peter Crumpton will all control the action at
the European Judo Union licensed and International Judo Federation
world circuit event.
The quartet’s selection
was down to their relevant classification. At each European event
a referee is given a classification and only referees who have
received a ‘B’ classification are eligible to attend the GB World
Cup.
Elaine Down, who’s also
the National Volunteer Manager, said: “As the hosting Federation
we are able to have four referees with ‘B’ classifications to
referee at the event.”
The respected group will
oversee contests between the world’s premier female fighters including
teams from Brazil, France, Russia, Spain, China, Czech Republic,
Ireland and New Zealand.
Britain will field a 25-strong
team for the Birmingham event which is supported by UK Sport and
Birmingham City Council.
Saturday 2 October will
see the women’s lightweight categories, -48kg, -52kg, -57kg, -63kg
and step into the spotlight while Sunday 3 October will see the
-70kg, -78kg and +78kg weight categories do battle.
Tickets can be purchased
