Premier League side Aston
Villa joined forces with Erdington Judo Club in Birmingham during
October half-term to deliver a two-day camp for young people as
part of the Premier League 4 Sport programme.
The sessions were held
at Erdington, which is Aston Villa’s hub club for judo, and attracted
14 youngsters as the programme continues to make a mark across
the country.
Premier League 4 Sport
is a government funded initiative which sees English football’s
elite create four satellite clubs which practice the Olympic disciplines
of judo, volleyball, table tennis and badminton.

Aston Villa’s Premier League
4 Sport Coordinator Debbi Rawson said: “At the end of the two
days the children staged a short demonstration to their parents
and carers to show the skills they had picked up.
“All of the young people
enjoyed the judo and the adults were delighted with how much their
children had learned during just two days.
“As part of the Premier
League 4 Sport project we are now looking at setting up an after
school club at the same venue on a Friday evening, which will
then feed into Erdington Judo hub club.”

One parent said: “My child
thoroughly enjoyed the two days and he couldn’t stop talking about
it when he got home, he liked the coach Jason Allen and was very
proud of his new skills. I really hope that he is able to continue
judo at an after school club in the area.”
