Mullen and Butler conclude Junior World Championships

The 2010 Junior World Championships concluded with British hopes Jodie Mullen and Joshua Butler competing on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Scot Mullen had a bye in the opening round of the under 63kg category which led to a meeting with Slovenian Vlora Bedeti. The bout was decided by two waza-ari scores and a yuko which were grounded out by Bedeti for a hard-fought victory.

The Slovenian went on to the gold medal match and narrowly lost out to Japan’s Miku Tashiro.

On Sunday Joshua Butler also had a bye in the opening round before battling Georgian Giorgi Koberidze. Despite being penalised twice Koberidze won through by ippon and went on to finish seventh.

Britain’s best rest result was a seventh-place finish as Swansea’s Brandon Dodge produced some high-quality judo on Thursday, the high-profile event’s opening day.
