Matsuri, an annual Japanese
Festival in London, this year saw judo, one of the country’s greatest
creations, receive a high-profile showcase on Saturday 18 September.
The London Area Committee and the
world-renowned Budokwai Judo Club teamed up to stage an unforgettable
presentation which captivated onlookers who were dotted along
all four sides of the matted area.

Dave Dunsford, of the London
Area Committee, said: “We had two presentation slots and displayed
elements of traditional and modern judo.
“The crowd were absorbed by the action
and the five against one challenge was very popular indeed. Those
watching appreciated the technique, skill and discipline that
the judoka showed and the sport is based upon.”

The challenge saw long-time British
international Bobby Rich go toe-to-toe with five of his peers
from the Budokwai for ten minutes.

judo presentation are available on the Budokwai’s YouTube channel
