New BJA grading fees

The BJA introduced new grading fees on 1 January 2012 with extra funds being made available to our Areas.

It has been approved by the Board of Directors in consultation and agreement with the Chairs of the Judo England Areas that Mon/Kyu grading fees will be increased.

This increase is to cover rising costs and more significantly, to allow the BJA to extend the current rebate it makes to the areas. From 1st January 2012 the area will receive each month a rebate of £2.00 from each grade registered at BJA office for 0-18th Mon, this had previously been limited to 0-6th Mon only. Areas will continue to utilise these funds and those from the individual licence rebate, to fund judo activity and education within their area.

Please note that with effect from 1st January 2012 the grade registration fees for Mon and Kyu grades have been increased from £7.00 to £7.50.

Any gradings that have already been advertised at the old fee of £7.00 will be honoured until 1st February 2012.

All grade registrations received at Head Office on or after 1st February 2012 will need to be paid at £7.50 in order to be processed.

Gradings submitted on or after 1st February 2012 with the old fee will unfortunately have to be returned.

Grade registration sheets will be updated with the new fee, but old forms can still be utilised until the current surplus stock is used.

The BJA recognises that organisers of gradings may require to add a surcharge to the £7.50 grade registration fee to cover additional costs such as venue hire, examiners’ expenses etc. The BJA recommend a maximum surcharge of £5.00 per candidate, but recognise that the grading organisers may charge more or less depending on circumstances. Any surcharge should be retained by the grading organiser and not sent to the BJA.
