Little and Gibbons benefit from Trust’s new focus

With help from the British Judo Trust, elite judoka Gemma Gibbons and Louise Little have less to worry about in the funding department.

After applying to the Trust for some financial support to help cover costs, including transportation & living expenses, Gemma and Louise were informed that they would both be awarded with a £500 grant.

Commenting on her financial grant Gemma said: “I am now training at Dartford full time and am really enjoying it. I am glad I made the move here, and the money from the Trust will help with my travel to training every day.

“It is really important to go to the smaller events such as B Tournaments, Opens and Trial events, to get more fights in to help prepare for when I am selected for A Tournaments. The money I have received will go towards the entry fees and travel costs for such events.

“These grants will make a big difference to individuals as it will for me and I am extremely happy to have received the award”.

Louise applied for a grant with the Trust as she does not receive any other source of funding.

Commenting on her recent successful application Louise said: “To be successful I need funding to be able to train, travel and attend competitions both nationally and internationally.

“Competing in B Tournaments such as the Belgium Ladies Open next year is very important for me as I am making the transition from junior to senior level. Being able to gain experience at these events is very beneficial.

“To be recognised by the Trust and to receive a reward is a great moral booster. This grant is of vital importance if I am to maintain European and World Level”.

The Trust hopes that this money will help both players continue with the successful results that they have gained this year such as Gemma’s bronze at the Tre Torri International and silver at the Swedish Open and Louise’s gold medal at the Venray U20 International Tournament.
