GB World Cup Day Two Pools Report

Greenwich judoka Gemma Gibbons won her pool to progress to the semi-finals while heavyweight Sarah Adlington entered the repechage.

In a busy under 70kg category Britain fielded four fighters in Gemma Gibbons, Scarlett Woolcock, Megan Fletcher and Sally Conway.

Gibbons overcome Luxembourg’s Lynn Mossong in the first round and had a bye in the second. The Brit triumphed over 2010 IJF Cairo World Cup silver medallist Marie Pasquet of France to win her pool.

Woolcock had a bye in the first round and bowed out after defeat to Linda Bolder of the Netherlands.

Fletcher also had a bye in the first round and lost her first outing against German Iljana Marzok.

Conway lost out to Germany’s Barbara Bandel in the first round.

In the under 78kg category Britain had three representatives in Louise Little, Samantha Lowe, Fiona Jones.

Jones exited after losing her first round fight to Anastasia Dmitrieva of Russia.

Little lost in the first round to Catherine Jacques of Belgium while Samantha Lowe went down to France’s Lucie Louette at the same stage.

In the over 78kg category Sarah Adlington, a two-time winner of this event, had a bye in the first round and lost out to five-time European Champion Anne-Sophie Mondiere of France. The defeat saw Adlington enter the hunt for a bronze medal via the repechage.
