North West and Midlands ExCell 8-week pilot start dates confirmed

The Sport England outcomes for the England Excel Intervention are to ensure that players are developed technically, nurtured and then transferred successfully to the Great Britain programme.

To accomplish this, in addition to our England Core Programme initiatives, we need to increase the quality contact time on a week to week basis, with players identified for the England Talent Development programme. It has been determined the best way to achieve this is by empowering our coaching network through progressive coach development around technical benchmarks, improving coaching behaviours and financial support.

To do this we have created the concept of the ‘ExCell’ programme, which aims to help players excel in the sport through the work of each performance cell. We have two areas to pilot the programme, the first of which is in the North West and the second in the Midlands

The North West ExCell will start on Wednesday 9th December at: Wigan Judo Club , Woodford Street, Pemberton, Wigan, WN5 8AY. Tel: 01942 212705.

All England squad players based in the North West will be involved with a Technical session 7-8pm, followed by an open randori session (8.00 – 9.30pm) for all Performance players in the area and indeed the country!

England players will be briefed at their England Area session on Wednesday 2nd December in Kendal about how the following 8-week pilot will work and be reviewed.

The England Core staff Jamie Johnson, Matthew Divall, Nigel Donohue and Trevor Sitlinton will be present for the first session, Nigel Donohue will lead the initial training sessions.

More information on the Midlands will follow shortly, but for the diary- start date 6th January 2010.
