British Judo star Karina
Bryant has won the British Olympic Association's Olympic Judo
Athlete of the Year award.
Bryant, 31, a three-time
Olympian and winner of 20 major medals, received the award from
BJA Chairman Densign White during Wednesday’s World Championships
media day at the British Judo Performance Institute in Dartford.
"It's probably one
of the most prestigious things I've been awarded. I'm really over
the moon,” the Camberley star told BBC Surrey.
"It wasn't just awarded
within my own sport so I'm pretty proud. It'll makes others want
to achieve the same thing."
Bryant believes her success
can inspire the next generation of judoka’s as Britain prepares
to field one of its youngest ever World Championships squads.
"In any sport, having
athletes around you that have achieved some of the things that
they want to gives them great confidence," she added.
"I'm sure a lot of
them of them will take on board what I've achieved and push themselves
to try and do the same."
