Brandon Dodge has been
selected to represent judo as a UK School Games Champion Ambassador.
The Champion Ambassadors
are the figureheads of an alumni of former champions who play
an active role in the event and raisings its profile.
Ambassadors are chosen
from the gold medal winners of previous Games with each sport
represented. As well as being gold medallists the athletes are
also chosen based on both their personal skills and abilities.
17-year-old Brandon from Swansea, won gold at the Games in 2007
in the -50kgs and in 2008 at the -55kg.
This year’s UK School
Games will take place from the 3rd–7th September in Cardiff, Swansea
and Newport. The judo tournament will take place at the Sports
Hall at the University of Swansea.
The UK School Games
gives young people from all over the UK the chance to compete
in a major multi-sport event like as the Olympic Games, Paralympic
Games or the Commonwealth Games. Competitors experience an Opening
and Closing ceremony, medals and accommodation in a Games village.
Glasgow hosted the first
UK School Games in 2006. Subsequent Games have been held in Coventry
and Bath.
The Youth Sport Trust
are responsible for staging the Games, which includes judo, hockey,
athletics, swimming, gymnastics, table tennis and fencing plus
disability events in athletics and swimming.
