Birchwood High School marks 500 day Olympic countdown

Birchwood High School in Bishop's Stortford hosted an Olympic day on Tuesday 15 March to mark 500 days until the 2012 Olympics.

Pupils from Summercroft Primary School also took part in an array of sports which will take centre stage in London next year including a judo taster session organised by the British Judo Association.

Nicole Nunn, East London Development Coach, delivered the sessions throughout the day and was supported by pupils who are also members of the local judo club, Bishops Stortford Judokwai.

“The day was a fantastic success, all the pupils enjoyed trying judo and those already involved with the sport were a great help to their school mates,” said Nicole.

Andrew Wilesmith, British Judo’s Eastern Development Officer, said: “ It was a great day that allowed the young people in Birchwood to try new sports and get a bit of a taste of what it is like to be a part of the Olympic experience.

“A number of new youngsters tried judo for the first time and the response was extremely positive. Nicole is a first-class coach and a great ambassador for the sport.”

Bishops Stortford Judokwai trains on Monday and Friday evenings. Beginners and experienced players are welcome. Please contact Nicole on 07814 556591 or visit our website www.bishopsstortfordjudo.com for further information.
