There
are now 250 Schools in England linked with judo clubs through
British Judo’s “School 2 Dojo” programme, built to support the
Governments PESSYP strategy, which has a target to increase participation
in sport by one million in 2012.
The
programme reached the milestone just seven months after its launch
and has increased the transition of school age children from schools
into registered judo clubs.
School
2 Dojo enhances the link between schools and judo clubs, whilst
still meeting the same objectives outlined by Sport England.
Schools
that are linked with their local judo clubs can now enjoy an enhanced
partnership with the clubs who are equipped to deliver taster
sessions, and literature to signpost young people to their local
club. Also linked into the programme is the BJA's Junior Volunteering
and the School Competition Framework.
Dan
Griffin, School 2 Dojo Manager said, “Judo is a sport that all
children can take part in, you do not need to be picked for a
team, super fast or be of a particulary physical shape, and this
is why I think the programme is having so much success with schools”.
