Locog Judo Technical Operations Manager Simone Callender to present workshop at the BJA Women and Girls Conference on Saturday 25 February

Locog Judo Technical Operations Manager Simone Callender to present workshop at the third instalment of British Judo’s annual Women and Girls Conference on Saturday 25 February.

The morning session will take place at the Village Hotel in Walsall with the afternoon session moving on to Our Lady and St Chad’s Catholic Sports College in Wolverhampton (transport will be provided).

With less than six month to go until the Olympic Games, the nation is gripped by Olympic fever and Simone, who won Commonwealth Games gold in 2002, will talk about her experience as a competitor and her current role with Locog.

British Judo’s Widening the Market Manager Joyce Heron will provide an overview on what impact the Women and Girl’s initiative has had on participation within the British Judo Association.

An Olympian guest speaker will talk about what motivates many sports people to push through the barriers in order to achieve their ultimate goal. The speaker will share her own unique Olympic experience with those in attendance.

British Judo Technical Officer Kerry Finney will lead a workshop to encourage delegates to discuss what they think British Judo can do to help, support, retain and encourage women and girls within our clubs.

Dawn Byrne, North West Director of Competition, will introduce you to the non-physical side of judo through sharing her experiences in sport.

The afternoon will feature a special training session with former world champions Loretta Cusack and Ann Fry-Hughes as well as former Commonwealth silver medallist and JudoFit expert Claire McDonald.

The 2012 conference encourages mothers and daughters to attend while providing varied content aimed at a wide range of participation groups in judo. After the daytime activities you can dance the night away at our dinner and disco evening.
