On Thursday, Euan Burton
(-81kg), Sarah Clark and Faith Pitman (both -63kg) looked to make
their mark for Great Britain on day three of the World Championships
in Paris.
Euan Burton started with
a win by ippon courtesy of a strangle after 53 seconds against
Islam Bozbayev of Kazakhstan.

Burton then faced former
Junior European champion Srdjan Mrvaljevic from Montenegro and
was penalised with a shido which saw him falll behind to a yuko
half way through the contest. The Scottish judoka attacked tirelessly
but failed to make a dent on the scoreboard and was eliminated.

Faith Pitman produced a
fine display to defeat four-time World Cup winner Munkhzaya Tsedvsuren
of Mongolia in her opening bout.

An even contest against
Busra Katipoglu of Turkey followed with the Pitman being more
than matching her game opponent. Pitman was given a shido with
18 seconds left to gift victory to the Turkish judoka by yuko.
In the same category
Sarah Clark was awarded the win against Fary Seye as the Senegalse
judoka was a no-show.
Clark then took on world
number two Gevrise Emane, a three-time and reigning European champion
from France. Emane, who was hugely backed by her home fans, delivered
a crowd-pleasing win by ippon.
