World Championships day four report

Friday saw Winston Gordon (-90kg) and Sally Conway (-70kg) compete on day four of the world Championships in Paris.

Winston Gordon received a bye in the first round and challenged Rene De Urriola after the Panama judoka was also spared a first round contest.

Gordon looked strong as he defeated De Urriola by armlock.

Next up was Ivan Remarenco of Moldova. Both men were unable to fully assert themselves in the contest and spent much of regulatory five minutes tussling for grip control. In golden score, an attack from Gordon saw him forced onto the mat and Remarenco pounced to secure a hold-down for 25 seconds and win by ippon.

Sally Conway received a bye and faced Rasa Sraka of Slovenia, the 2010 World silver medallist. Sraka posted two yuko’s on the scoreboard before submitting Conway with an armlock.
