This aim of this English programme is
to assist the development of talented athletes with the potential
to win medals, or equivalent, in significant future international
competitions and events within the next eight years (2 Olympic
Cycles).
World Class Potential funding is available to:
- establish performer development guidelines which identify
attainment targets at certain developmental stages
- develop and implement training and competition programmes
- establish sports science, sports medicine, personal development
and other training support
- specify and implement measures to remove barriers and inequalities
- access necessary facilities and equipment
- support the personal development and education of athletes
- employ World Class coaches and other key staff
- provide financial support to individual athletes through Athlete
Personal Awards (World Class Potential Athlete Personal
Awards are a non means tested contribution to an athlete'
essential sporting costs)
World Class Potential Funding is generated from the proceeds
of the National Lottery
and is distributed by the four Home Country Sports Councils
( Sport England , Sportscotland
, Sports Council for Northern
Ireland , Sports
Council for Wales)
