England ExCell Programme

The Sport England outcomes for the England Excel Intervention are to ensure that players are developed technically, nurtured and then transferred successfully to the Great Britain programme.

To accomplish this, in addition to our England Core Programme initiatives, we need to increase the quality contact time on a week to week basis, with players identified for the England Talent Development programme. It has been determined the best way to achieve this is by empowering our coaching network through progressive coach development around technical benchmarks, improving coaching behaviours and financial support.

To do this we have created the concept of the "ExCell" programme, which aims to help players excel in the sport through the work of each performance cell.

Currently, two areas are to pilot the programme, the first of which is in the North West and the second in the Midlands. Other areas will follow in 2010.
