Player Identification

Eligibility

To be eligible, players must meet the following criteria:

  • Be Resident in England, born in England or have a parent born in England.
  • Hold a BJA licence holder
  • Hold a British passport
  • Hold a minimum grade of 10th Mon (green belt)
  • Aged between 12 and 19 years

Routes for Indentification

The World Class Start Squad will be identified at the end of October using the following criteria:

    1. Performances in identification events. These are the Heart of England Championships and the National Junior Ageband Championships. Medallists will be allocated points (Gold –1000, Silver-600, bronze 400). These will give an indication of a players overall performance over the two events. Gold medallists in the National Junior Ageband Championships will gain automatic entry into the program.
    2. Representation at the European Cadet Championships or the European Youth Olympic Festival. Players who have represented Great Britain at these events will gain automatic entry
    3. Long Term Potential. Players with long term potential, as identified by the World Class Start coaches.

More players may be included in the stronger weight categories and less in others as appropriate.

 

Co-options

Players who narrowly miss out on selection will be invited to attend WCS Area training sessions. Area coaches may also recommend players to be invited to these trainings. Players will be identified for co-option throughout the year, based on performances at these training sessions together with performances in events such as the North West Age-bands, Midland Age-bands, and the BSJA Individual championships.
