Non-technical event volunteers take on a variety of roles and help to ensure that events run smoothly. They are customer focused and generally work on the day of event, however, opportunities may also be available in the lead up to the event.
What does the role involve?
A multitude of roles exist and the number and nature of the opportunities available will depend greatly on the size of the event.
Pre-event activities may include:
- Competition administration
- Sourcing equipment
- Venue set-up
- Food preparation
While on the day people may be required to:
- Supervise the car park
- Sell refreshments
- Collect entrance fees
- Act as stewards
Who does the role suit?
Event volunteering is ideal for those volunteers who only want to volunteer sporadically but is able to give up at least half a day, generally at the weekend.
What skills are required?
The skills required would vary from role to role, generic skills include;
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to work under pressure or in busy environments
