What is Volunteering?
The BJA are committed to
volunteering, which in it self is rewarding, fulfilling and great
fun. You can gain valuable new skills such as more confidence,
self esteem, and most of all learn new skills.
You don’t need any special
qualifications or training to volunteer. All that’s needed is
plenty of enthusiasm.
In this leaflet the BJA
have tried to give you an idea of what’s involved in judo volunteering,
and answer a number of most frequently asked questions.
What can I do as
a Volunteer?
There are a number of ways
you or your club can contribute to judo volunteering:
You
don’t need to train or coach judo to take part
To help you decide on what
areas of volunteering to get involved in, detailed below are a
few ideas to help you on your way
Local Clubs
Your local Judo clubs are
great way of introducing yourself to volunteering. There are always
lots of things to be involved in such as:
Helping
setting up the venue i.e. mats, benches, registration, lesson
planning
You
may have experience of assisting with the development of websites,
press releases, designing posters and leaflets.
Your
local club may hold regular events so helping with registration,
weigh ins, displays, mechanising, welcoming and greeting officials.
If you are still unsure
about what you can do, why not contact your judo local club and
ask about what volunteering opportunities are available.
A link can be found on the front page of our website.
The
BJA Volunteer Resource Pack has been designed to inform clubs
how they can attract more people to participate off the mat.
If you are interested
in registering as a BJA volunteer follow the link to complete
the application

Step into Sport/BJA
Helpers Award Recognition Awards
Step into Sport is an exiting
new initiative designed for 14-19 years, to give young people
a structured pathway into judo volunteering, and creating opportunities
to deliver at a local level. The key aim of the programmes is
to support younger volunteers to develop new skills, knowledge,
and qualifications within their own local community.
We have 3 awards that
have been designed to introduce the next generation of coaches,
officials and
event
organisers to judo. These programmes can be for judo
enthusiasts or those wishing to support the sport by another avenue.
Event Volunteering
Would you like to be involved
in BJA Events? Are you looking for some experience in developing
sport programmes? May be one day you could be volunteering at
the London 2012 Games.
There are currently a number
of event volunteering opportunities to get involved in. One example
is the administration of junior/senior tournament programmes throughout
the Country. We are looking for people of all ages, levels and
abilities to get involved.
To register as an event
volunteer, visit the BJA Volunteer website and to find out what
events you can take part in.
