Wrenwa Judo Club receive Clubmark Award

Medway’s growing reputation as a centre of excellence for judo has received another boost as Wrenwa Judo Club has become the latest club to receive their Clubmark Bronze Award.

The judo hotbed now features four highly-active clubs who have received the coveted Clubmark Award.

Clubmark is Sport England’s accreditation for excellence in sports provision for young people. Successful clubs must demonstrate good management and a commitment to equality, diversity and safeguarding children, as well as delivering an excellent playing programme.

Peter Beard, South East Development Officer for the British Judo Association, praised the clubs achievements.

“The BJA are very proud that Wrenwa Judo Club has achieved the bronze status in the Club Recognition Scheme, the BJA’s term for Sport England’s Clubmark.

“This is a kite mark to show that the club are meeting minimum operating standards and that’s great credit to those volunteers working hard at the club.

Beard continued: “It’s a club with a lovely atmosphere and we recommend you head down there and check it out in person as they cater for all levels.”

Medway Council’s sports development team offers support and guidance to help clubs achieve Clubmark status.

Sports Development Officer Sarah Dand said: “Clubmark is an excellent way for clubs to demonstrate quality, but also means parents can feel confident that their children are safe playing sport.

“We are delighted that Wrenwa have joined the list of Clubmark judo clubs in Medway and congratulate everyone involved on their success.”
