Leicestershire’s Vale
Judo Club won a remarkable twelve medals at the Women and Girls
Judo Championships in Kidderminster on Saturday March 27th .
The event was run as
part of the British Judo Association’s Women and girls in judo
initiative
Vale Judo’s Emma Philip
claimed gold while Megan Rowley, Alex Cutforth, Lydie Haliday
and Emily Chiplin all won silver. Bronze medals went to Georgina
Talukdar, Sofia Palmer, Rebecca Wensley, Chloe Chiplin, Olivia
Stevenson, Morgan Hodgkin and Clemence Barnes.
Club official Mick Newton
said: “We were well represented at the event and we have to say
really w ell done to all of the Vale Judo girls that competed.”
The Rutland-based club,
who boast a strong female membership, have been proactive in utilising
the Association’s Women and Girls initiative which is specifically
aimed at developing and increasing female participation in the
sport
This exciting initiative
is funded by Sport England and mainly directed at a recreational
level, to inspire women over 14 years of age to remain in the
sport and to encourage potential members to engage in judo.
Vale Judo’s success
at the Women’s Championship follows up a silver medal at the British
Schools Individual National Championship on Saturday March 20
th . Under 44kg prospect Holly Newton put in a string of skilful
displays to take second place in the School Years 7/8/9 competition.
The British Judo Association
is the National Governing Body for the Olympic Sport of judo in
Great Britain.
Vale Judo Club train
at 29B Pillings Road, Pillings Road Industrial Estate, Oakham,
LE15 6TQ. Junior randori and fitness training takes place on Friday
at 19:00 – 20:00 with the adult session following at 20:00 – 21:00.
Adult’s recreational training is held on Saturday at 11:30 – 12:30.
