The anticipated third instalment of the Rutland Primary Schools Judo Festival will take place at Vale Judo Club on Saturday 10 July.

Rutland's annual festival, which is regarded as one of Leicestershire’s premier junior sports events, offers many novice players their first experience of competitive judo.

The weigh-in will take place on 9:30am, while it has been confirmed that the British Judo Association’s U12 year’s rules will be in effect.

Leicestershire's ever-active club will also host a boys and girls training camp on Wednesday 11 August. The camp will run from 10:30 – 15:00 and the entry fee is £4. Former Olympic judoka Joyce Heron and fellow 6 th Dan Steve Gawthorpe will lead the session which is open to players aged 8-16 in the East Midlands.

Club official Nikki Heyworth said: “We have the resources and the numbers to enable us to put on such activities.

“Vale Judo Club has a dedicated dojo with two large mat areas and over 60 children between eight and 16 who are second mon or above.

“The children are very enthusiastic and love any opportunity to further their judo experience. Being able to train with children from other clubs is of great benefit.”
