The British Judo Trust
has donated £350 to Bristol’s Just Do It Judo Club to support
their young members through gradings, licence renewals and minimise
the cost for families.
The club was formed as
an after-school outfit in January 2009 by club coach and chairman
Stephen Westlake with support from Bristol Council.
In 2010 the club was on
the verge of closing after funding cuts but Stephen used his own
personal coaching fee to pay towards the licence fees for disadvantaged
children and the hire of the venue.
The club has tremendous
support from the parents of families of their young players and
is now intent on increasing the financial support available for
them to continue to practice judo.
Stephen Westlake said:
“This donation will help us keep 20 young children off the streets
in the area and give them the support to enjoy the sport of judo.
We want to provide help to the families that are on very low income
or disadvantaged.
“Seeing them taking part
in the sport and having ownership of their judo suit, taking grading’s
and coming away with medals from events is what the club is focused
on. The club is led by my fellow coach Matt and me, we have no
committee so we seek and receive support from the families attending
each week and by all pulling together we’ll continue to keep the
club running successfully.
Just Do It Judo Club is
based at Brunel Fitness Centre, Speedwell Road, Bristol, BS15
INU. For more information on Just Do It Judo Club please contact
