Winchester University staged
the first ever Triangular training event between Hampshire clubs
as they hosted the newly-established Southampton Solent and Southampton
University Judo Club on Sunday 7 November.
The well-received session
included some very competitive randori and gave each judoka a
very welcome opportunity to work with their peers from neighbouring
outfits.
Peter Beard, British Judo’s
South East Development Officer, said: “The coaches were also very
receptive and the session gave them the opportunity to pick up
new drills and ideas to take back to their club.
“The British Judo Association
has invested in developing the sport within higher education establishments
and judo is certainly on the rise at Universities. We hope events
such as the Triangular will prove a valuable tool in the recruitment
of beginners and retention of current participants.”
The next Triangular takes place at Southampton Solent University
on Sunday 5 December at 17:30 – 19:30.
Winchester & Southampton University Judo Clubs are for students
only however Southampton Solent is open to the community and trains
on Sundays at 17:30 – 19:30. For more information please contact
