Shropshire’s Kelly Edwards
and Daniel Williams are looking to make a name for themselves
at the Senior European Championships in Vienna, Austria from April
23 rd - 25 th.
Telford’s Kelly Edwards,
19, trains at the Wrekin Star Judo Club in Horsehay, who are members
of the British Judo Association. Edwards is aiming to gain more
than experience at the star-studded event.
“I don’t want to just say
that I’m going to the Europeans for the experience,” said Edwards.
“I believe I have the tools
to compete in such an event. I know the players will be really
good but I believe I can put in good performances.”
“We’ll be training with
the Russian squad shortly which will be great preparation for
the squad,” she added.
Fellow Shropshire product
Daniel Williams, 20, is making his first appearance at the event
and is understandably in a buoyant mood.
“This is a massive step
on the ladder that’s for sure,” he said.
“To be around the likes
of James Millar and Euan Burton, people who’ve been there and
done it, is great for me. You can’t buy that. It’s important to
get that experience.”
“I want to achieve something
at the European Championships. I want to go there, perform well
and see what happens.”
Shopshire’s Sarah Adlington
will be a reserve in the under 78kg category for one of Britain’s
most decorated judoka’s, four-time European Championships gold
medallist Karina Bryant.
The British Judo Association
is the National Governing Body for the Olympic Sport of judo in
Great Britain.
Wrekin Star Judo Club train
at the Thomas Telford School. Old Park, TF3 4NW. Boys and girls
train on Tuesday at 18:30 – 19:15. Men and women train on the
