Shin-Gi-Tai Judo club in Wigan to run the Great Manchester Run for the Luke Walmsley Sport Foundation

The Shin-Gi-Tai Judo Club in Ince, Wigan is running the 10k Great Manchester run on 23rd May 2004 to raise money for the Luke Walmsley Sport Foundation.

The parents of Luke Walmsley, who was a member of Grimsby Judo Club, set up the Sport Foundation to create a permanent memorial to his life after he was tragically killed at school last year. All the money raised will go towards providing a new sports facility for the local community.

Members of the Shin-Gi-Tai club who will take part in the Great Manchester run (r unning in their judo kits) include: John Clarke, Ian Foster Anthony Foster, James Foster, Holly Peet, Lisa Christy, Laura Farrell and Demi James.

Explaining his reasons for taking part in the run, Ian Foster, a coach at Shin-Gi-Tai said, "Our club is very much a family run club with a great atmosphere in an area that had very little for children or adults to do before we opened. We wanted to thank the sport of Judo and everyone involved in it for the 23 years worth of memories it has given us so far. By helping to raise money for Luke’s foundation, we can assist in provid ing something for another community, a sports facility to serve them for many years to come”.

If you would like to sponsor the club please contact Ian Foster at 11 Repton Avenue, Springview, Wigan, Lancashire, WN3 4TL. Telephone number 01942 703640.

Please make all cheques payable to the Luke Walmsley Sports foundation.

In addition, on 4th July The Luke Walmsley Judo Tournament will take place at the English Institute of Sport Sheffield.
