The British Judo Association’s
prestigious Young Official of the Year prize has gone to Samurai
Judo Club’s Sarah Biles.
The 18-year-old will
receive the award at the National Governing Body’s Volunteer Awards
Dinner on Saturday 2 October at the Botanical Gardens in Birmingham.
Samurai Judo Club’s
official, who is also a talented junior player, was nominated
by the club’s volunteer co-ordinator Ben Newbury.
The Worcestershire teenager
has been involved at the club for five years and is now a junior
table official as well as a referee and player.
“Sarah has officiated
at the majority of events held within the area, as an elite junior
judoka she balances her competitive career with officiating,”
said Newbury.
“Her fast rise has seen
her has officiate at three national events this year – the British
Schools, Masters and A Bands, all while continuing her flourishing
playing career.
The
all-rounder passed the competition recorder level this year and
is now one of the youngest in people in the role the country.
“Sarah is dedicated
to judo and would do anything to be involved in the sport. She
is an outstanding young official and I’m delighted to see her
recognised with the award.”
Samurai Judo Club train
at Unit 3, 4 Lisle Avenue, Worcestershire, DY11 7DE. Training
times for senior beginners are Thursday 7.30-9.10. and juniors
Tuesday 6.30-8.00 as well as Friday. There are also junior beginners
sessions on Thursdays for 6-8 years and Fridays for 8-12 years,
both 6.20-7.30.
