Over 20 members of Nottinghamshire
judo’s county squad turned out to support the Cancer Research
Relay for Life event at the Harvey Hadden Stadium on July 24.
The charity run saw 15
juniors join five seniors and a handful of coaches from across
Nottingham take part.
The squad were approached
a week before from the event to hold a demonstration which was
taken by highly-regarded county coach Jason Dutton.
A noted 3rd Dan and club
coach at Ryecroft Judokwai, Dutton led an hour’s training session
which guided the squad through a range of techniques to demonstrate
the Olympic sport to spectators.
Terri Ann Elliott, a BJA
Regional Development Officer, was delighted by the attendance
of the region’s premier judo figures.
‘It is amazing that we
can pull so many players together, from so many clubs at such
short notice.
“It helped that Nottinghamshire
happened to be holding it’s county training session that morning
so players and coaches were already in the mood for a day of judo
but even so, to get this many people at the event which we agreed
to support less than a week ago is a remarkable feat.
“Everyone involved in the
event did a great job, the judo was excellent and the player’s
behaviour was impeccable. At the end of the day the juniors were
rewarded for their efforts with ice creams and medals, resulting
in smiles all round.”
Nottinghamshire Judo will
be holding a weekend judo camp from Friday 30 July until Sunday
1 August which will feature mat based judo sessions and outdoor
activities such as raft building, log rolling and an assault course.
One of Britain’s finest
ever judo practitioners, the semi-retired former World and European
Champion, Craig Fallon, will run a masterclass on Saturday 31
July.
